Director - Corporate Services Engineering - Morgan Stanley - Hong Kong


Job description
Basic Function: A member of the Engineering team within Corporate Real Estate Management, Corporate Services, responsible for the implementation of design standards for all technical disciplines including mechanical and electrical services, fire protection, and cabling infrastructure.
Locally and regionally, the primary role is to work amongst a team of MEP specialists providing supporting services for projects and the operation of all critical systems. The position holder will work closely with local project teams as well as managing operational partnerships with other divisions such as Property Services, IT and Security for regional standardization and best practices.



Globally, the incumbent will represent Asia and be an active member of the Global Engineering Team, supporting the establishment of global standards for all key MEP disciplines and critical systems.

Principal Responsibilities and Duties:

Reporting regionally to the Senior Engineering Asia:

Design Standard/Study

· Develop regional standards based on the global guidelines.

· Contribute to regional and global objectives in areas such as resiliency studies and design guidelines.

· Liaise with IT senior management on technology-driven design issues and initiatives.

· Keep up with industry best practices by attending industry seminars and training.

Design Implementation

· Support Corporate Real Estate with due diligence reporting and feasibility studies during property acquisition and disposition.

· Implement engineering design aspects of Morgan Stanley regional construction projects and support the Project Management team on technical issues and the development of design briefs.

· Review project proposals from engineering consultants and select consultants.

· Assist the Project Management Team in establishing project budgets.

· Actively participate in peer resourcing of projects in the Americas and EMEA.

· Actively participate in setting out Design Team objectives and priorities, working as a pro-active team member on projects.

· Assist with managing Design Team budgets.



Design Support to Property Operations

· Work with a team of directly employed specialist staff whose responsibilities include Mechanical and Electrical design, and Cabling Infrastructure design and maintenance. Appoint and oversee specialist consultants as required and in consultation with other functional areas.

· Track adherence to the Firm’s Engineering and Critical Systems Standard Operating Procedures by the Project Management and Engineering Maintenance teams.

· Support the Property Services Team in the implementation of critical engineering system status monitoring as well as building emergency response and escalation procedures.

· Contribute to design modifications and the enhancement of maintenance regimes to eliminate system deficiencies and improve system reliability.

· Foster a positive team environment encompassing all job categories and functions within the Firm.

Qualifications

· A degree qualification in engineering or building science (preferably in electrical engineering design discipline).

· Construction industry experience, preferably within mission critical environments or banking industry.

· A strong track record in engineering design and project management, with experience of high quality, fast track and complex projects.

· Minimum ten year experience in an engineering environment (in design consultant, construction or facility management).

· Knowledge of international standards and codes.

· A team player who can develop and maintain good relationships with colleagues, professionals and clients.

· A sound technical base with the ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with technical and non technical colleagues.

· Intermediate to advanced software skills – MS Office package.
