Director - Corporate Affairs - Microsoft - Hong Kong
Job description
The Director, Corporate Affairs & Citizenship for Hong Kong will be responsible for managing the development and implementation of Microsoft‘s public policy initiatives as they relate to our strategic partnerships with government, industry associations, international organizations, customers and partners. The role is to manage and execute on Microsoft’s public policy priorities by developing relationships with government officials directly and indirectly to successfully drive our corporate affairs agenda, as well as technology policy goals. Additionally, you will lead, develop and promote Microsoft HK’s citizenship efforts and community affairs work.
The mission of the Citizenship & Community Affairs Team is to support the company’s business goals by ensuring that Microsoft is recognized as a responsible corporate citizen committed to serving the public good through innovative technologies and partnerships that contribute to economic and social opportunity, through leadership on public policy issues related to technology and society.
Key Accountabilities:
1) Corporate Affairs
- Help identify, develop and implement Microsoft’s public policy agenda. In particular, working closely with Microsoft’s Leadership Team and the National Technology Officer to develop and coordinate strategies in engaging the government and other influencers on key policy issues including Innovation, Youth Engagement (K12, undergraduates and youth communities) and CityNext.
- Collaborate with the wider Legal and Corporate Affairs community to develop thought leadership strategies on a broad range of tech policy issues relating to IPR protection, internet safety & security, privacy, cloud computing, big data/IoT, open data, smart city, e-learning etc.
- Interface with internal partner groups to assess new issues and support partner organizations such as Public Sector sales, Developer Group, Public Relations, Marketing, the Citizenship Board and others.
- Provide strong executive support for Microsoft’s HK Leadership Team and other individuals in leadership positions for interfacing with senior government officials working cross-functionally with subject matter experts as required.
- Engage and manage outside consulting, think tanks, and academic resources.
- Represent Microsoft at industry group and ad-hoc coalition meetings.
- Build partnerships within the industry and across other industry sectors.
- Manage day to day operational functions to include periodic reporting on goals and objectives, budget, events and content development for internal and external websites.
2) Citizenship and Community Affairs
- Own and drive Microsoft HK’s Citizenship plan.
- Develop effective relationships with key NGOs and other partners which support the Citizenship plan. Optimize relationships for mutual benefit, ensuring satisfaction and evidence of the value of Microsoft’s contribution.
- Seek out and drive opportunities to promote Microsoft’s Citizenship efforts to a wide range of stakeholders (Elites, Influencers, Employees), with a specific focus on: developing practical partnerships with Government and NGOs; hosting or attending relevant events; media coverage; awards; speaker opportunities.
- Create and drive opportunities for employee or business engagement within projects and programs.
Requirements:
1) Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Essential Experience: Demonstrable experience as a policy/ government affairs professional at a medium to large company (technology, communications, telecoms or internet company) and or as a Policy Leader at a trade association, think tank, or consulting firm. In addition, candidates should ideally have experience in working on technology, telecoms or internet-related policy.
2) Technical/Functional Skills
- Executive Presence: Outstanding leadership skills and proven abilities to influence policy making amongst both government and private sector audiences.
- Presentation and Communications: Demonstrable experience in public speaking and presentation skills will be required. Highly developed written and verbal communication and influencing skills will be essential.
- Strategic Management and Leadership: Outstanding strategic and demonstrable intellectual capabilities.
- Public Policy Content and Strategy: Experienced in identifying and crafting strategies on a variety of Internet, telecoms and information technology issues.
3) Qualifications and other requirements
- Academic background should include a minimum of a first (bachelor’s) degree or equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experiences in local IT industry, and 3 years or more in management
- Extensive experiences in dealing with government and public affairs in Hong Kong
- Track record of relationship with key stakeholders
- Fluency in English and Cantonese is required, Mandarin is a definite asset.
- Some International travel will be required.
